Although the Red Raiders are historically known for their relentless passing attack, they have quietly developed a top-40 rushing attack and feature one of the top running backs in the country. Senior Tahj Brooks is ninth in the country with 887 rushing yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Brooks has clipped the 100-yard mark five times, including rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown against BYU. He has found the end zone at least once in four consecutive games. Brooks also has been a viable receiving option out of the backfield, securing 14 receptions for 72 yards.
Sophomore Cam’Ron Valdez also has provided a change of pace in the backfield with numerous explosive runs in somewhat limited action. TCU coach Sonny Dykes told the media that a good portion of the emphasis during the bye week was spent on working on mental and physical toughness after Kansas State clearly presented an edge in those areas. He referenced the team he inherited in his first year at the helm, which memorably went through the regular season undefeated and ended up in the national title game against Georgia.
